How We Work
Editorial Policy
How we research, test, score, and correct our shoe reviews — and how we keep commercial relationships from influencing editorial decisions.
Last updated: July 17, 2026
1. Editorial Mission
Hot Fashion Shoe was founded in 2025 by Richard V. Cheever to solve a specific problem: online shoe shopping is full of confusing sizing charts, vague descriptions, and marketing language that all sounds the same. Our editorial mission is to publish shoe reviews and buying guides that are useful specifically because they are honest — built on manufacturer specifications and real customer feedback, never on which product pays the highest commission.
This page explains exactly how that mission is put into practice: who creates our content, how we research and score products, how we keep advertising and affiliate revenue separate from editorial judgment, and what we do when we get something wrong.
2. Editorial Independence
Commercial relationships never override editorial judgment. Here’s exactly where the line is drawn.
3. Who Creates Our Content
Richard V. Cheever
Founded the site in 2025. Sets editorial standards, reviews scoring decisions, and has final sign-off on the process described on this page.
Content Writers
Responsible for pulling manufacturer specifications, verifying customer feedback, and drafting reviews and comparisons following the process in Section 5.
Final Sign-Off
Every published review passes a final editorial check for accuracy, disclosure placement, and adherence to the scoring criteria in Section 6 before it goes live.
4. Our 6-Step Content Creation Process
Identify the Product
A product is selected for review based on relevance to our five footwear categories and real reader interest — not based on affiliate commission rate.
Research Manufacturer Specs
Materials, sizing, construction, and stated intended use are pulled from primary manufacturer sources — see Section 6 for our source standards.
Verify Customer Feedback
Real customer reviews are checked for consistency in fit, sizing, and durability complaints or praise, not just overall star average.
Compare Against Similar Styles
Each product is placed side-by-side with comparable options in the same category so the trade-offs are visible, not just the positives.
Score Against Fixed Criteria
The product is scored using the six weighted criteria in Section 6, applied the same way to every product in its category.
Editorial Review & Publish
A final editorial pass checks accuracy, disclosure placement, and scoring consistency before the review is published with a visible “last updated” date.
5. Research Standards
Primary Sources
Product claims are checked against primary sources — manufacturer specification sheets, official product listings, and verified customer review platforms — rather than repeated from other blogs or aggregator sites. Where manufacturer information is incomplete or contradictory, we note that clearly rather than filling the gap with a guess.
US Market Verification
Because our primary audience is US shoppers, we verify that sizing charts, pricing, and availability referenced in a review reflect the product’s US listing specifically — not an international variant that may differ in sizing standard, materials, or price.
No AI-Only Content Policy
AI tools may be used to assist with drafting or editing, but no content is published without human research, fact-checking, and editorial review. A review is never generated end-to-end by AI and published without a person verifying the underlying product claims and reading the final draft for accuracy.
6. Product Review Methodology
Every review follows the same evaluation lens, regardless of whether the product has an affiliate program attached:
- What is this shoe actually built for, and does it deliver on that intended use?
- How consistent is customer feedback on sizing and fit?
- What materials and construction details affect comfort and durability?
- How does it compare to similar products in the same category and price range?
- Who is this product genuinely the right fit for — and who should skip it?
7. Scoring Criteria
Every product is scored against these six weighted criteria, applied consistently within its category.
These weightings apply within a product category (e.g. athletic shoes are compared to other athletic shoes). Scores are finalized before affiliate eligibility is checked, per Section 2.
8. Affiliate & Advertising Policy
Hot Fashion Shoe is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, and may also display advertisements through Google AdSense, Ezoic, or similar networks. Here is exactly how we keep that revenue from contaminating editorial decisions:
- A product’s score (Section 7) is finalized before we check whether it has an affiliate program available
- We never adjust a score upward to make a product eligible for a “top pick” or featured placement
- Display ad placement is a design decision, separate from which products are reviewed or how they’re scored
- Full disclosure details are available on our Affiliate Disclosure page
If you ever suspect a review has been influenced by commission eligibility, tell us — see Section 11 for how to report it.
9. Content Update Policy
Product pricing, availability, and manufacturer specifications can change after a review is published. To keep our content accurate:
- Every review and buying guide displays a visible “last updated” date
- Reviews are re-checked when a reader reports outdated information (see Section 11)
- If a product is discontinued, meaningfully redesigned, or drops sharply in customer satisfaction, the review is updated or a notice is added rather than left unchanged
- Category buying guides are periodically reviewed to confirm featured products are still current, in-stock options
10. Corrections Policy
Mistakes happen. Here’s exactly what happens when one is reported.
Report Received
A correction request comes in through our Contact page, ideally with the specific page URL and detail in question.
Claim Verified
We re-check the disputed detail against primary sources (manufacturer specs, current listings, or customer feedback data).
Content Corrected
If the report is accurate, the page is updated and the “last updated” date is refreshed to reflect the change.
Reporter Notified
Whoever reported the issue is told what was changed (or, if we disagree with the report, why we’re not making a change).
11. Sponsored Content Rules
If Hot Fashion Shoe ever publishes sponsored content (content a brand has paid for directly, as distinct from standard affiliate commission), the following rules apply without exception:
- Sponsored content is clearly labeled as “Sponsored” at the top of the page — never disguised as an independent review
- A brand paying for sponsored placement does not receive a higher score than the scoring criteria in Section 7 would otherwise produce
- Sponsored content still follows the same accuracy standards in Sections 5-6 — a paid placement is not exempt from fact-checking
- Sponsorship never grants editorial control over how a product is described
